c.l.: Sure! You should do an interview for your blog! Go meet him, and then share with us what you learned about him. I'd love to know what kind of a person he is and what motivates his actions.
Sorry for not commenting on this sooner...I have been out of the blog world for awhile now!
I so have met Norman Borlaug!! I was of course a Crop and Soil Science Major at Michigan State University!! He was a good friend of one of my plant genetic professor's, and he came in to do a guest presentation. He did a power point and everything, I was pretty impressed, he is a pretty old guy!! He almost inspired me to go into International Agriculture and feed the World!! of course now I sell technology solutions, which is almost as important!! :D Small world though...I shook his hand and talked to him and everything...so yeah I am pretty cool, I guess!!
He was pretty humble if I remember correctly. I just remember thinking that he was So Old! I do remember being inspired to go save the world through genetics and agronomy, so I think he did talk about the people a lot, it has been awhile. I know that some of my plant genetics professors were pretty into themselves, and so it was more about a status then it was about saving the world. I don't think that was the case with him though!! pretty neat stuff! :)
I'm so fascinated by these stories about Norman Borlaug. I'm also ashamed that I haven't cared more about the things he cares about.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, I should go meet him! But what do I do... go knock on his door and say, "hi, my dad's a farmer too"?

ReplyDeleteI can never remember his name, I just call him the "dwarf wheat" guy :) It is good to see him still being recognized for his accomplishment.

Jake: That's pretty sweet! Was he a pretty humble guy? Did he talk about the millions he fed, or just talk about the biology of his work?
