How Not to Respond to Suffering

If Life's a journey, then there must be a destination. Where are you headed?
Isaiah 6:3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

Honestly, I haven't been paying a whole ton of attention to the campaigns given that I'm out of the country and it isn't even '08 yet.
Based on what I do know about Dr. Paul, I like his low government & war stances, but am fairly sure he leaves a lot to be desired on immigration.

i thought he was as democratic as a republican can get. or is that someone else?
democrats are absolute idiots and i can't see how someone can be a democrat and a christian (based on the genral stances of their party). i'm not saying everyone should be republican, but at least don't be a democrat.
general stances, not genral
I'm definitely still learning about him, but he seems to be an "old school republican". Back when they stood for small government and more states rights. He's a firm believer in capitalism. If the constitution doesn't give the federal government the power to do it, then he doesn't believe it should be done.
"I don't see how anyone can be a democrat and a Christian"
That's a pretty broad and assuming statement. I don't think all democrats stand for things Christians should stand for, but it's awfully dangerous to start saying "You can't be a Christian if you look like, act like, etc."
Maybe since our loyalty as Christians is to a new kingdom and a new ruler we should just give to Ceasar what is his and keep our loyalty with Christ, not men.

how can a christian support a party that very widely supports abortion and gay marriage? that is blatantly unbiblical and therefore unchristian. i don't know how a christian can compromise that in their mind and call themself a democrat.
As a Republican, I do not support everything the Republican party stands for, or every agenda they push.
However, I still call myself a Republican.
I would hesitate to say, that unless I support everything my party supports, I need to call myself an independent.
i realize that but abortion and gay marriage is still too much to compromise. it's like those christians who are so weak that they act like premaritial sex is okay or evolution is real. that's straight bullcrap.
It just seems to me that I'd be treading on dangerous ground to deny peoples Christianity based on their stated political party without, at least, getting to know the individual and seeing their heart in the matter.
However, I still wish I could jump a bike half as good as you.
yeah, you're probably right about that. i'd love to hear a christian democrat explain it to me. there's probably some exceptions.
Based on my personal convictions as a Christian, I have a hard time agreeing with where most Republicans stand on war, the death penalty, immigration, and a couple other issues. On those same convictions I can't agree with Democratic stances on abortion, gay marriage, and a couple other issues. As such, I don't align myself with a party because I have a hard time fitting my convictions based on Christ's love in with the logic of this world. That's not to say that aligning with a party in general is wrong, but I agree with Luke that it is dangerous to deny someone's faith without knowing their heart.

"Democrats are absolute idiots." Actually, although not a democrat myself, I've known quite a few and they are intellegent people. Economically they're brillant. So please don't go making broad statements you can't back up.
nope, they're pretty stupid. disingenuous too.
most of them are not economically brillant. they don't understand capitalism or the tax system. they don't get simple things like that the government can increase its revenue but not increasing taxes and therefore not slowing down your economy. they just want to pretend to care about poor people and tell them what they want to hear, like the rich get all the tax breaks and that they have it so rough.
I'm not sure I get the point of your last argument on capitalism in taxes. How is the government increasing revenue? I'm all for small government, but if we as Christians aren't taking care of the poor and sick in our communities like Jesus called us to and as the early church did, why do we blame the government for their problems in attempting to help those people? Sure, the government isn't the perfect vehicle for solving those issues, but at least some people are trying, while we as Christians sit on our hands and ignore the call Christ gave us.

who's blaming the government for the poor?
the more buying and selling that happens, the more the government gets in tax revenue from it. the more they raise taxes, the less buying and selling that happens. basically.
