About the book...

Hyper-spiritual approaches to finding God's will don't work. It's time to try something new: Give up.

Pastor and author Kevin DeYoung counsels Christians to settle down, make choices, and do the hard work of seeing those choices through. Too often, he writes, God's people tinker around with churches, jobs, and relationships, worrying that they haven't found God's perfect will for their lives. Or—even worse—they do absolutely nothing, stuck in a frustrated state of paralyzed indecision, waiting . . . waiting . . . waiting for clear, direct, unmistakable direction.

But God doesn't need to tell us what to do at each fork in the road. He's already revealed his plan for our lives: to love him with our whole hearts, to obey His Word, and after that, to do what we like.

No need for hocus-pocus. No reason to be directionally challenged. Just do something.

At 128 pages, it is a concise treatment on a topic of interest to us all.

What people are saying...

"God told me that He wants you to read this book. Actually, that is one of the many mistaken notions about God's will that Kevin DeYoung wants to correct."
--Collin Hansen, Editor at Large, Christianity Today

"The truth is that God is more committed to showing you His will than you are to discovering it. This book shows that discovering God's will happens not as we 'let go and let God,' but as we trust God and get going."
--Tullian Tchividjian, Pastor, New City Church

“DeYoung explains so well what Oswald Chambers wrote a century ago, ‘Trust God and do the next thing.’ Sadly our wrongheaded search for the elusive ‘will of God’ often prevents us from doing both. This book will help correct that problem.”
--Gerald L. Sittser, Professor of Theology, Whitworth University

Since my temptation is the frustrated, paralyzed state I would've recommended that the solution would be "Give up...and do something!"

Sounds like a good resource.

This is too good to be true.....what's the catch? :-)

Some other good resources:

1. Decison Making and the Will of God2. Way of Wisdom

I'll vouch for the Way of Wisdom book. That was the first book I read about the will of God. It keeps a fairly simple approach so that the concept is not too tough to grasp up front. It really opened the door for my views on the issue.

Interesting recommendation. I haven't heard of this book, but I have read other material on prayer and God's will (_Found: God's Will_, by John MacArthur and _Praying Backwards_ by Bryan Chapell). While the approach described in your post may sound like it belittles God by not seeking out plain and personal signs, I think maybe demanding a new answer from God may be the very approach that belittles Him. He has already given us His Word! Anyway, the two books I mentioned have been life-changing for me. I no longer have to live in fear or superstition when making a decision.

I highly recommend _Praying Backwards_. It's a very thorough resource on the topic of prayer.

Thanks for those sources Carrie. I'm not familiar with Chapell, but MacArthur is sure to have some good stuff on this subject.
