Why do we listen when we know they are lies?
Why are we so quick to trade long term joy for immediate satisfaction?
Why do circumstances in this life tend to drag us down when they are so insignificant in the eternal scheme of things?
Why do we struggle to keep that eternal perspective of the day to day?

Why do we listen when we know it's lies?
Here's my theory: the lies you hear over and over again become truth to you unless you counter them with what is true. Satan comes telling us his lies to over and over and over again; he's agressive and very persistant. So if we aren't persistant in letting God tell us His truths (because, unlike satan, He doesn't just come telling us, we have to approach Him first) to counter Satan's lies, well ...
Does that make any sense whatsoever?
(and yeah, I'm guessing those were questions you weren't really asking for answers to...)
Dona: The questions were meant to inspire thought, and I love it when people share their thoughts through comments.
I agree with you. When you hear a lie often enough it will become your truth unless you're actively countering the lies with the truth.
The here and now are just that, which tend to shade over the eternal truth unless we remind ourselves like Dona said. It is why we don't only go to Church on Easter and Christmas.
