The topic at Thursday night bible study was "A Passion for the Word". I looked up the word "passion" this morning. My favorite definition was "Boundless Enthusiasm".
Hmmm...Does that describe my emotions toward God's Word?
God wrote a book. He wrote it because he loves me and wanted me to know His heart. He wanted me to have a glimpse of His character. Am I as enthusiastic as I should be about reading it?
Are you?
While this little guy was skimming the Bible he figured out some interesting facts and shared them with me. Here they are:
BIBLE FACTS: The system of chapters was introduced in A.D. 1238 by Cardinal Hugo de
S. Caro, while the verse notations were added in 1551 by Robertus
Stephanus, after the advent of printing.
A Bible in the University of Gottingen is written on 2,470 palm leaves.
According to statistics from Wycliffe International, the Society of
Gideons, and the International Bible Society, the number of new Bibles
that are sold, given away, or otherwise distributed in the United
States is about 168,000 per day.
The Bible can be read aloud in 70 hours.
There are 8,674 different Hebrew words in the Bible, 5,624 different
Greek words, and 12,143 different English words in the King James Version.
A number of verses in the Bible (KJV) contain all but 1 letter of the
alphabet: Ezra 7:21 contains all but the letter j; Joshua 7:24,
1 Kings 1:9, 1 Chronicles 12:40, 2 Chronicles 36:10, Ezekiel 28:13,
Daniel 4:37, and Haggai 1:1 contain all but q; 2 Kings 16:15 and
1 Chronicles 4:10 contain all but z; and Galatians 1:14 contains all
but k.

Ok, the kid didn't really tell me any of those facts. I got them all here.
If you google "Bible Facts" you get some really cool stuff.

Wow. Thanks, Luke. That's really interesting stuff.
Thanks for the research. Pretty soon, your blog will be an internet of information all itself.

natz: I thought they were interesting facts too. :) I never think about the fact that the bible has 40 different writers and one author!
Beeg: You rock. Keep selling sister.
Taryn: That's what I'm going for. I figure, if Al Gore can invent the internet, I can improve it right?

Wow...I was really impressed with that kid there for a sec!
Know what I think is neat? That middle-of-the-Bible verse..."It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man."
That, and there's a whole TON o' words in this great book!!

Wow- that's amazing! Thanks for sharing your wealth of info! Keep the great posts comin'!
It's not my wealth of info. :) It's the internets, but I'll do my best to keep posting.

It is not always wise or logical to group people. Just because most of the people are christians and probably conservitive that read this blog, doesn't mean that any of us support a death penalty. But I can see a little more logic in killing some one who has commited grotesque crime then a completly innocent baby that has no choice in their actions. That being said I still don't believe in the death penalty because I believe it is up to God, not man, to decide whether one lives or dies, whether one goes to heaven or hell. I hope you can see the logic behind this and I pray that someday you will realize truth and come to Jesus.

Ok, so first off, I have to comment on the fact that you guys are putting your word verification at the bottom of your comment. Hilarious. I think that it is so funny that you two can get a kick out of what those jumbled up letters form. Something that not many people would think to even give a second thought, and you people look at it and put it at the bottom of your comment. I love it.
When I read the statistics all I could think about was this childhood video that i used to watch. And it used to sing... "39 books in the old testiment, each one a special part" haha it makes me laugh to think about it. I should pull that movie out and watch it again. It would be a good bible statistics refresher course.
And just for you, Luke and Taryn...

You'll have to explain to me sometime how this got started...
Actually you missed the logic completely cause you cannot think though an issue. You would rather obey the consensus in your church then do the work of thinking. Trust and obey Man... Trust and Obey God... whats the difference right? George Bush is always right.. God is always right. UNWANTED, NEGLECTED, ABUSED children who don't get aborted grow up to be Criminals, or extremelly poor(majority of the time). Because there family cannot afford them, or there mother has a chemical dependecy. Keeping an unwanted child around is just asking for abuse or neglect. You think you can legislate morality and people will just stop having kids that they can't raise because they can't have abortion. Yea right. They will just end up in a dumpster somewhere. Either you send them off to die in War, because the majority of poor people join the army because it's there only opportunity. Or you send them off to die or waste away in jail. Not all babies get adopted to nice Christians families as it is now. What do you think will happen if there is an explosion of unwanted children. Especially with the slumping economy and high energy and food prices.
WHOOPPEEEE! Bush nominated a woman who has no law experience whatsoever for the Supreme Court!! For those of you whose counting. The head of the Supreme Court now is an Honest young guy who wouldn't even release his tax records because he's soo honest. Yea get rid of abortion. Write Bush a moral blank check as long as he gets rid of abortion. Kill Kill Kill, but not the unborn fetuses. George Bush holds the record for the most Executions as a govenor of any state. What a compassionate conservative he is. KILL KILL KILL in Iraq. Whoops.. no weapons of mass destruction. Sorry Iraqys. Well just say Saddam was involved with 9/11. That would be a good bait and switch.

In response to all your comments about abortion of unwanted babies... whatever happened to the choice of adoption? I know lots of people who would love to adopt children, especially babies, but there aren't many available for adoption. So instead, they read statistics on the numbers of abortions, while sitting at home wishing they could have a baby or adopt a baby...
And what makes you think all Christians support the death penalty? Just because many of us supported Bush over Gore? Choosing the best available candidate doesn't always mean you're choosing the best person for the job or that you agree with him 100%.
